What did your research tell you about how people share ideas in your fields?
After doing some research, I learned that a lot of people in my fields learn from reading- journals, books and others’ research. They also frequent conferences to learn from peers as well as to share ideas.
What tools will best allow you to learn about new ideas in your fields?
I have found that Twitter will be the best tool to use in order to learn about new ideas in the field because it is a place where a lot of news is shared and it is easy to filter your feed so that you can see news pertinent to your field.
What tools will best allow you to connect with scholars and professionals in your fields?
Twitter is the best way to connect with scholars and professionals in the field because it is very accessible and there are many simple ways to connect with others (ie by mentioning them in a tweet, following them, direct messaging them or retweeting their tweet)
What tools will best allow you to share you own knowledge, experiences, and ideas with other people in your fields?
Again Twitter is a great way to share knowledge and experience, no matter what your experience level or qualification. It is easy to use hashtags or keywords to that others in the field see what you have to say.
How public do you want to be? Why?
I want to be as public as possible, because while it is important to be public in one specific field, it is also helpful to be public in all fields as making connections with all types of people is helpful in furthering a career.
How will you engage at least once a week with your Personal Learning Network?
In order to engage once a week, I will log into my Twitter account frequently and follow more people each time that I do. I will also interact with others by retweeting their work or mentioning them in a tweet.
How will you know if your PLN is serving you well or not?
With Twitter, it is pretty obvious whether or not your Twitter is successful. You can quantify success based on the number of interactions you have, the number of followers you have and the amount of relevant news that you see.
This is a good plan, and now that you have experience with it, keep thinking about how you might improve it as you go forward. Play around, stay engaged with your network, and see what happens!
